To manage the crowd, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has decided to restrict virtual and spot bookings at the Lord Ayyappa temple on December 25 and 26 as part of crowd management initiatives in connection with the annual Mandala pooja festival.TDB said that the number of pilgrims would be capped at 50,000 and 60,000 on December 25 and 26 respectively. Spot booking would be limited to 5,000 each on both days, it said.On December 25, when the Thanka Anki procession arrives, 50,000 pilgrims will be allowed to visit the Sabarimala Sannidhanam. The following day, the Mandala pooja day, 60,000 pilgrims will be permitted. Additionally, 5,000 pilgrims each will be allowed to visit through real-time online booking on both days.With just six days left for the Mandala pilgrimage season to conclude, the number of devotees arriving at Sabarimala has increased significantly. On December 20, 96,853 pilgrims reached Sabarimala, with 22,203 arriving through spot booking and 70,000 through virtual queue. Another 3,852 devotees arrived via Pulmedu. As of 8 am on December 21, 31,507 pilgrims arrived through virtual queue and 7,718 through spot booking.
