A third back-to-back term. Though the ruling combine had a relatively reduced victory margin in terms of the number of seats won, there was no mistaking PM Modi's ability to deliver at the hustings constantly. The epoch-making victory was all the more credible as for the first time since 2014 when Narendra Modi first assumed office as the PM, the Opposition parties under the banner of India bloc managed to put up a reasonably good fight against the ruling combine. However, it was simply not good enough to upset the NDA bandwagon.
Rather significantly, the NDA also managed to open its account in Parliamentary polls from Kerala, when its candidate actor Suresh Gopi scored an upset win in Thrissur constituency. Besides its political significance, the actor-turned-politico's showing was a giant-killing act as the losing candidates were the redoubtable K Muraleedharan(Cong) and V S Sunilkumar(CPI).
