MAHARASHTRA deputy CM Ajit Pawar on Monday held a crucial meeting with his party colleague and minister Dhananjay Munde as pressure mounted on him to sack the latter over his alleged links with Walmik Karad, the Massajog Sarpanch murder mastermind. The two leaders reportedly discussed the fallout of the murder case.Besides, legislators across party lines press Pawar to seek Munde's resignation. The state government has already constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the murder of Sarpanch Deshmukh.Jitendra Ahwad, former minister and NCP (SP) MLA, said: "The police failed to arrest Karad because he had Munde's blessing. So, Karad surrendered. He was not arrested. In fact, Munde was trying to protect Karad and save him from arrest. If he is there as a minister, how can you expect justice for the deceased?"He was critical of Pawar's role so far. "The way Ajit Pawar is handling this case shows he has no guts to take action against Munde. Therefore, CM Devendra Fadnavis should use his veto and sack him."A few other ministers of Mahayuti also felt that Munde should resign and return if he came out unscathed after the SIT probe.
