Crimes against women decline; FIRs, sexual offences against children and robbery cases show an increase in the district this year, says SP

WEST Godavari district has reported 6122 FIRs in 2024, an increase from 6022 in 2023, despite the police implementing measures to prevent offences. Addressing the media in Bhimavaram on Tuesday, West Godavari District Police Superintendent Adnan Nayeem Asni highlighted the decline in murder cases, with 15 cases reported in 2024 compared to 17 in 2023. However, there was an increase in cases of murder for gain, with 3 cases in 2024, up from 1 in 2023.

Robbery cases also saw a rise, with 14 reported in 2024 compared to 4 in the previous year. Burglaries increased slightly, from 203 in 2023 to 206 in 2024, while theft cases decreased from 483 to 473. Crimes against women declined, with 768 cases reported in 2024, down from 797 in 2023. Sexual offences against children showed a small increase, with 93 cases in 2024, compared to 91 in the previous year.
