- N RAMESH @ Thanjavur

SAMBA paddy harvesting has commenced in the district but farmers already complain that the yield is lower than usual. With some complaining the yield to have reduced by half, they blame the heavy rains during the northeast monsoon for the losses.

According to the officials of the agriculture and farmers' welfare department, out of 1.30 lakh hectares on which samba and thaladi paddy has been cultivated in the district this season, harvesting is complete in around 7,500 hectares so far.
