The row began after a fake letter targeted BJP MLA from Amreli Kaushik Vekaria. The letter, which went viral on social media, falsely accused Vekaria of accepting bribes for sand and liquor smuggling. It was written using a fake letterhead of Amreli taluka panchayat president Kishore Kanpariya and carried a forged signature. The allegations caused an uproar within the Amreli BJP. In a show of support, around 100 leaders and Vekaria's supporters escalated the matter to Gujarat BJP president C.R. Patil.Meanwhile, Kishore lodged a complaint at Amreli police station, demanding action against those behind the fake letter. Police arrested four accused, including prime suspect and former BJP office-bearer Manish Vaghasia and the woman, on December 28. The next day, all four accused were brought together for a reconstruction of the incident as part of the investigation.Former Congress MLA Dudhat accused BJP leaders of falsely defaming the Patidar woman and raised the issue in a letter to CM Bhupendra Patel and the Patidar organisation.“The Patidar woman has been falsely accused by BJP leaders in Amreli without proper probe,” Dudhat said. “She was arrested at midnight and paraded on the city’s main road by the police. Such actions by BJP’s Patel leaders are nothing but an attempt to satisfy their egos,” he added.BJP spokesperson Shraddha Rajput hit back at the Congress, accusing it of playing dirty politics. “The police only carried out a reconstruction of the incident with the woman present, yet the Congress is twisting the legal process into a baseless narrative,” she said.
