According to Kullanchavadi police, the body of Gnanakumar was found in Puthuthangal lake in Samattikuppam on December 25. Based on a complaint lodged by his wife, G Jayapriya, the police registered a case and confirmed through an autopsy that he had been murdered."On the morning of December 25, Gnanakumar was caught attempting to steal jackfruit from the farmland of Devanathan (49) of Sathankuppam, near Naduveerapattu. A quarrel broke out between them, during which Devanathan struck Gnanakumar with a wooden piece," a police official said.Police added that Gnanakumar fainted and died on the spot. Devanathan then informed four others—A Suriya Prakash (24), D Thanigaivel (38), A Ravichandran (52), and S Ilango (43)—from the same village. They transported the body by bike and dumped it in the lake. The police nabbed the five based on suspicion. They confessed to the crime during interrogation.
