CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury passed away after prolonged illness at AIIMS-Delhi on Thursday. He was admitted to AIIMS for acute respiratory tract infection.

“He died after battling a severe lung infection... Yechury was the topmost leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), an outstanding leader of the Left movement and a well-known Marxist ideologue,” read a statement issued by the party.
