ALL is set for polling in the first phase of 3-phase Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday with a focus on voter turnout. The polls hold significance as it is the first Assembly polls in J&K post Article 370 abrogation. The elections are being seen as a "referendum" by all political parties, including the BJP.
Tight security arrangements have been put in place in seven districts, where 23.27 lakh electors will cast their votes to elect 24 legislators. A total of 219 candidates are in the fray for 24 Assembly seats in Phase-I of polls. Of the 24 Assembly seats, 16 spread over four south Kashmir districts are in Valley and 8 are in three districts (Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda) in Jammu region.
