Farmers will get compensated for crop loss soon: Dy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo

Farmers affected by last month's unseasonal rainfall, which led to significant paddy crop losses, will soon receive compensation as the state government has announced a relief package of Rs 291 crores, stated Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo at a meeting in Balikuda on Monday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid the foundation stone for the new Rayagada Railway Division and highlighted the potential of the state to be a hub for international trade.

The PM said that Odisha is blessed with abundant natural resources and a large coastline, and holds significant potential for international trade. Several railway projects worth over Rs 70,000 crore are ongoing in Odisha, along with the establishment of seven Gati Shakti cargo terminals, which will boost trade and industry.

The new division will be a boon for southern parts of Odisha which is tribal dominated, noted the PM while adding that railway operations in Odisha are expected to experience a marked increase in efficiency with the formation

He inaugurated an export-oriented rice mill in Balikuda.

The rice mill, built at a cost of Rs 50 crores, is expected to provide employment opportunities to nearly 300 young men and women.
