Justin Trudeau's resignation as Canada's Prime Minister marks the close of an era that began with immense hope but ended amid growing challenges and dissatisfaction.

When he assumed office in 2015, Mr. Trudeau symbolised a new generation of leadership, championing progressive ideals and promising transformative change.

His tenure saw ground-breaking achievements, from the legalisation of recreational cannabis to the introduction of a tax-free child benefit and a national climate action plan. His commitment to gender equality and reconciliation with Indigenous communities further cemented his image as a leader committed to inclusivity and fairness.

However, Mr. Trudeau's leadership faced growing scrutiny as economic and political pressures mounted. Rising inflation, a housing affordability crisis, and increasing strain on public services left many Canadians questioning his government's ability to deliver on its promises. Mr. Trudeau's ability to connect with voters on an emotional level was both a strength and a vulnerability. While his charisma and optimism won him global admiration, it also heightened expectations. Over time, as promises remained unfulfilled, this connection frayed, exposing the challenges of maintaining public trust in a high-stakes political environment.

While his initial handling of the pandemic was lauded, the later stages exposed deep societal divisions. Vaccine mandates and public health restrictions sparked polarising protests, culminating in events like the Freedom Convoy, which tested his administration's ability to balance public safety with democratic freedoms. Mr. Trudeau's tenure was also marked by scandals that chipped away at his credibility. Ethical breaches and controversies surrounding his handling of certain policies created an impression of a leader increasingly disconnected from the struggles of everyday Canadians.
