In a tragic incident, some unscrupulous builders have caused extensive damage to the house of Hannah Marshman, the first woman Misasionary in India, in Serampore on Saturday.
Hannah Marshman, née Shepherd (1767-1847) was the wife of Joshua Marshman, who along with William Carry and Ward had played a major role in spreading education in India.
Hannah along with her husband set up this school in Serampore in 1818 which was one of the oldest school for girls in India and also in Asia.
On Saturday morning a bulldozer entered the premises of Serampore Mission Girls High School premises and began to pull down Hannah House, the building where Hannah stayed with her husband Joshua Marhman.
