Gujarat’s Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey said today that landfall of Bipajoy would now be near Lakhpat, instead of Jakhau and Mandvi in Kutch district. Earlier, meteorological department authorities had estimated landfall would occur between Jakhau and Mandvi anytime after 4.00 pm on Thursday.
Even with the decrease in speed, Biparjoy would generate strong winds at 100 to 125 kilometres per hour, Mr Pandey said. High tidal waves, rains and gusty winds are already lashing the coastal areas since last night.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) later said in a statement on Thursday evening that the process of landfall has started near Jakhau Port in Kutch district.
