The District Magistrate of West Burdwan, S. Ponnambalam, has directed the health screening of all workers in the district's stone-crushing industries after four labourers were recently detected with silicosis.

There are several stone-crushing units in West Burdwan district, and workers from only one factory have been screened so far.

After health screening, suspected patients will be required to appear before the special silicosis detection board of the district health department.

A committee will be set up at Salanpur block for silicosis, and the first meeting will be held on 14 January. After which, the members of the committee will be finalized.
