It was powered by nostalgic hits, a huge LED screen and synchronised lightsticks
For a band which performed in Singapore every other year before the Covid-19 pandemic, four years must feel like an eternity.
That was how long fans have waited to see Taiwanese band Mayday in the flesh again. Some 40,000 of them were at the band's three-hour concert, titled Mayday Fly To 2022 Live In Singapore, at the National Stadium last Saturday.
The quintet consisting of lead vocalist Ashin, bassist Masa, drummer Guan You and guitarists Stone and Monster - last performed here in 2018 and their pandemic-induced absence had only fired up fans even more. It was a show worth waiting for. The band, which debuted in 1999 and have since risen to become Mandopop's biggest rock act, pulled out all the stops with hit after hit. Here are three highlights:
1. Trip down memory lane
Before its current name, the concert was billed Mayday's Just Rock It!!! Blue tour, which drew inspiration from the group's first three albums - Mayday's First Album (1999), Viva Love (2000) and People Life, Ocean Wild (2001) - all of which featured blue covers.
