On Saturday, the 42-year-old bank executive and mother of one celebrated Christmas with her husband's extended family for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic started in 2020.
"Christmas is a season of giving, and C.K. has given me a very precious gift. I feel like a completely new person altogether," said Madam Yeow of her 44-year-old husband Ng Choe Kee.
"And the transplant has brought us closer as husband and wife," added the avid tennis player.
Her new kidney marked the end of a period when she felt drained of life.
At 16, she was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a disease that affects the kidneys' ability to filter waste and fluid from one's blood, and her kidney function deteriorated over time.
Her condition worsened significantly in the past three to four years. Her feet swelled, she was breathless after climbing a flight of stairs, and she felt weak all the time.
It was hard for her to accept her condition, given that she was very active before playing tennis, swimming and taking part in triathlons.
She said: "I gave up all sports as my disease progressed. I would wake up in the morning with only 50 per cent of energy, and by the afternoon, I would feel fully flat."
