Seven people six pilgrims and a pilot-died after a helicopter crashed on a hill and burst into flames minutes after it took off from Kedarnath shrine for Guptkashi around 11.45 am on Tuesday. Five of the pilgrims were women. The accident happened at Dev Darshini, between Garudchatti and Lincholi.
The chopper, operated by Delhi-based Aryan Aviation, was a Bell-407, registered as VT-RPN. The company is&nbsp;among the many players operating heli-services to Kedarnath from various places.
As per the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the chopper went down in dense fog. "It looks like the pilot, after seeing the fog ahead, tried to return to Kedarnath. In the process, the chopper's tail hit the ground as it was flying too low," said district disaster management officer NK Rajwar.
The victims were identified as Purva Ramanuj (26), Kruti Barad (30), and Urvi Barad (25) from Gujarat; Sujata (56), Prem Kumar (63), and Kala (60) from Tamil Nadu, and pilot Anil Singh, 57, from Mumbai.
