Residents of Ameenpur, on Sunday, blocked traffic for close to three hours to protest against the abysmal condition of roads in their area, which worsened further following the recent heavy rains. Protestors parked their cars on Sardar Patel road in Ameenpur, near Sunway Opus, and did not allow traffic to move, 10 am onwards.
"We have been struggling for the last five years. We have requested officials, both online and offline, to address the issue but it still remains unresolved. Now, because of heavy rains, the situation has gone from bad to worse.&nbsp;There are small ponds on the road," said Surendra U, a techie, who lives in the area. "Officials should try to commute on this 2km stretch, which is full of potholes. Only then they will realize what we are going through," he added.
While around 80 residents who participated in the protest&nbsp;admitted that their demonstration had caused inconvenience to many commuters, they claimed that they had no choice but to resort to such an action. "This is the only way to grab the attention of the government and push them to find a permanent solution to the problem. About 380 families live in the gated community and this is the only way for them to reach their residences," said another protestor highlighting how hundreds of commuters from Chakrapuri colony and other nearby communities, travelling towards Ameenpur, Chandanagar also use this road to commute.
Apart from the recent rains that caused severe damage to the stretch, residents said that heavy vehicles, such as water tankers, are also to be blamed for the condition of the road.
"I have been living in this area since 2016. Not even once has the road been attended to by the government," said Pawan Kumar, another resident.
Locals said that the water on the road should be first pumped out and officials should immediately repair the road so that they don't face any inconvenience while commuting.
Apart from blocking the road, the residents also took to social media and tagged various ministers and officials to their tweets, urging them to address their concern.
