The Munugode bypoll race took a violent turn when some miscreants vandalised Congress party office at Chandur in the constituency in the late hours of Monday and also set party flags and poll paraphrenalia like banners and flexis on fire.
Demanding strong action, TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy threatened to stage a dharna in front of the district SP office if the miscreants were not arrested within 24 hours. Local Congress leaders on Tuesday filed a complaint with police.
Videos shared by Congress workers with parts of the office burnt down along with several files and flags went viral.
The incident came to light in the morning when party workers went to the office to collect the flags and election material to distribute and tie them at vantage points in the constituency. Local Congress leaders blamed BJP and TRS workers for the vandalism, saying that both the parties have already smelt defeat at the hands of Congress.
Party candidate Palvai Sravanthi along with local leaders staged a dharna demanding the arrest of the culprits.
Revanth, who was supposed to conduct his roadshows and streetcorner meetings in Chandur, alleged&nbsp;that TRS and BJP were unable to digest the party's growing popularity and the response it was getting from the voters.
"TRS and BJP cannot stop our victory. Our flag will fly high and we will retain Munugode seat. Such acts of cowardice will further renew and strengthen our resolve to fight against BJP and TRS," he said. Any delay in arresting the culprits would mean that either TRS or BJP was behind the vandalism, he said.
