London: Down two-sets-to-love and with 20-year-old Jannik Sinner doing to him what he frequently does to opponents, shredding defences, Novak Djokovic left Centre Court for a bathroom break - also known as the reset retreat.
That’s where the turn around began. Djokovic, the defending champion, rallied for a 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 result to make the Wimbledon semifinals, his 26th consecutive win in southwest London. The 35-year-old finished the match in the whirlwind fashion that he had begun. The Serb had got off to a sprinter’s start and it was only in the 14th minute of the match that the young Italian got on the scoreboard 1-3.
“The first two sets were a different match from the rest of it,” Djokovic said. “He was the better player in the first two sets. Then I took the toilet break, a reset break and I had a pep talk to the mirror. Sometimes in these circumstances, when not much is happening positively for you, these chats are needed.”
