<p><strong>Hyderabad:&nbsp;</strong>Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday urged some of India&rsquo;s top design institutes to focus on forging win-win alliances with industry to come up with innovative, sustainable solutions and newer ways of showcasing India instead of waiting for government grants.</p>

<p id="2">&ldquo;Today India&rsquo;s middle class wants to access the best of things, all of which require newer ways of producing things. I would suggest that institutions such as IIP and others seek industry collaboration and give a chance to students to come up with innovative solutions that can be patented and supplied to industry,&rdquo; Sitharaman said during a student&rsquo;s meet of all institutes under the aegis of the Union ministry of commerce and industry.</p>
<p id="3">Addressing students of the National Institute of Design (NID), Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI), National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Indian Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT) and Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Sitharaman urged them to also take inspiration from the country&rsquo;s rich heritage to produce unique and sustainable designs.</p>

<p id="2">Citing examples of indigenous sustainable offerings such as blue leather and jewellery designs, she urged students to learn about sustainable products and designs produced by India and become agents of change and continuity by restoring them and improving on them for ease of living in the present age.</p>

<p>She said such efforts would not just revive India&rsquo;s dying materials and designs but would also empower the artisans that are dependent on such activities.</p>
