Hyderabad: Several parts of the city were lashed by a fresh spell of rain on Saturday, with Shaikpet taking the brunt. More than 16 cm rainfall between 5pm and 11pm caused inundation in many parts of city, leaving several vehicles submerged.
According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Shaikpet received highest rainfall of 159.8 mm, followed by Madhapur at 128 mm, Jubilee Hills at 114.8 mm, Hydernagar at 111.3 mm, Gachibowli at 108 mm and Manikonda at 104 mm. While western parts of the city witnessed heavy rainfall, remaining areas of the city remained dry. The rain-hit localities include Madhapur, Attapur, Kukatpally, Miyapur and Serilingampally.
Crippling jams in arterial roads had a ripple effect on traffic. The stretch from Mindspace to JNTU was thrown out of gear with rains, waterlogging and bumper-to-bumper traffic. Similar scenes were seen at Madhapur, which encountered severe waterlogging along the Metro line.
However, there&rsquo;s some cheer for Telangana, which may get relief over the next two days, but Hyderabad is likely to bear the brunt of the retreating monsoon, predicted Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
Though southwest monsoon will intensify over Telangana over a few days, only light to moderate showers are expected in state, which are likely to intensify by October 11. The retreating monsoon will continuing to impact city with IMD predicting a rainy week ahead. &ldquo;The rain spell may continue till October second week. Monsoon got over in the state on September 30, but intense spells may occur, owing to retreating monsoon winds,&rdquo; explained K Nagaratana, IMD chief, Hyderabad.
