Hyderabad: Illegal structures in Raghavendra Colony that choked Kamuni Cheruvu at Moosapet near Kukatpally IDL were demolished by officials of irrigation and revenue department on Monday. The encroachments were razed, following directives by municipal administration minister K T Rama Rao, who also sought immediate lodging of cases against culprits.

GHMC deputy commissioner (Moosapet circle) KRavi Kumar said, "Caretakers of Kamuni Cheruvu, irrigation department and revenue wings along with a Kukatpally police team razed the encroachments. A fence is being raised around the lake and an FIR filed against land grabbers. The demolition was carried out with the help of Kukatpally inspector." Talking to TOI, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) lakes division assistant executive engineer A Lakshmi Narayana said,
"We will remove debris and restore the lake on Tuesday.
The mandal revenue officer and surveyor have conducted the survey." Kukatpally inspector Narsinga Rao said, "A case has been registered against unknown encroachers, who have been booked for damage to public property and under WALTA Act." However, activists questioned police for slapping petty sections and not stringent laws against the accused.
Anti-corruption activist Vijay Gopal said, "Why was&nbsp;the Land Grabbing Act or Environment Protection Act not invoked? Section 427 is a petty offence, which is related to mischief damage and carries a fine of *50. Why is the accused column empty in the FIR and why have they not been tracked down and arrested?" Reacting to the tweet, Baahubali producer Shobu Yarlagadda said, "We wonder why some areas are deluged during the monsoon." A local resident Krishna Kiran said, "The Kamuni Cheruvu has to be completely restored by removing debris and mud."
