<p id="1"><strong>Vijayawada: </strong>The Endowments department on Saturday transferred Kanipakam temple executive officer MV Suresh Babu for allegedly issuing notification increasing Abhishekam ticket price from `700 to `5,000. The AP government also issued a show-cause notice to Suresh Babu on the issue. Rana Pratap was appointed as the new executive officer with immediate effect.</p>
<p>Varasiddi Vinayaka temple at Kanipakam in Chittoor district is a major religious place. Lakhs of people visit the temple every year. Abhishekam is one of the important Arjita Sevas performed at the temple, which is believed to be a sacred offering. Suresh Babu issued a notification increasing Abhishekam ticket price to Rs 5000.</p>

<p id="1">The decision sparked a major controversy and Hindu organisations opposed the move. The news went viral in social and digital media on Friday. The Endowments ministry swung into action and suspended the notification issued by Suresh Babu.</p>
<p>Endowments minister Kottu Satyanarayana said that the government would never take any decision which hurts the sentiments of devotees. &ldquo;The government does not want to add burden on devotees. We are unaware of the decision. We will immediately initiate action against EO and others responsible for this. Abhishekam ticket rate remains the same,&rdquo; the minister said.</p>

<p id="2">Hindu associations demanded stringent action against Suresh Babu and a detailed CID inquiry into the issue. &ldquo;Suresh Babu is a controversial officer. He faced many allegations when he worked as the EO of Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada. He faced ACB inquiry and later got posting as Kanipakam EO. The decision taken by him has hurt thousands of devotees. The government should take the issue seriously and order a detailed inquiry. He should not be taken into duties until he gets a clean chit,&rdquo; said Y Bhargav, member of Devalaya Parirakshana Samithi.</p>
