TRS working president and minister KT Rama Rao has strongly opposed the recommendation of Union home minister Amit Shah headed parliamentary panel that the medium of instruction in technical and non-technical higher educational institutes should be Hindi. Stating that the recommendation of the panel was unconstitutional, KTR demanded that the recommendation be withdrawn immediately.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, KTR took objection to the attempts being made to impose Hindi across the country. He said, "India does not have a national language and Hindi was one among the many official languages, but the Centre was trying to impose Hindi, which is being spoken by only 40% of the country's population, on the rest of the country."
"The 8th schedule of the Constitution has 22 officially recognised languages in India. Many Indians rose to top posts such as CEOs of multinational companies as they have pursued their education in English medium. But, the BJP-led central government's indirect Hindi imposition even in IITs and NITS is proving to be detrimental to crores of youngsters," the minister said, warning that this could cause a social-economic divide between various parts of India.
On the issue of conducting competitive exams for national posts in Hindi and English by central recruitment agencies, KTR said it would be unjust to the crores of youth who studied in their regional languages. They will lose out on job opportunities, he added, demanding that the Centre conduct recruitment exams in regional languages for the benefit of job aspirants from various states.
"There are 20 recruitment agencies which conduct the exams in Hindi and English.&nbsp;The UPSC conducts 16 recruitment exams for national posts in these two languages.&nbsp;Job announcements from central recruiting agencies are scarce and the limited recruitment drives are discriminatory against students who pursued education in regional languages," he said.
Fearing that the panel's recommendation could reverse the nation's development, KTR called for an expert committee to hold exams in regional languages.
The minister recalled that Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in 2020, had written a letter to the PM on conducting examinations in regional languages. Yet, the centre had released notifications to conduct exams only in Hindi and English mediums, KTR stated.
