Lotus in G20 logo sparks BJP-Cong spat

New Delhi: A war of words erupted between BJP and Congress over the depiction of lotus flower on the logo for India’s G20 presidency, released by PM Narendra Modi, with the saffron party accusing the opposition party of not only insulting the country’s national flower but also Hinduism and it is associated with deities like Lakshmi and Saraswati who are seated on the flower.

“The opposition party should know that the lotus is the national flower and it was selected by Congress government. So, the current generation of its leaders should have some respect for their ancestors’ decision,” BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said. Earlier, Congress accused BJP of “shamelessly” promoting its election symbol through the official logo for India’s presidency of G20.
