Poet and well-known Telu-gu author Darbhasaya-nam Srinivasacharya (62), has written thousands of letters over the years to family and friends.
He still writes and posts letters, even though many of his contemporaries have given up on them.
&ldquo;I continue to post letters, but sending them has become more difficult in recent years, so I use courier services,&rdquo; says Srinivasacharya.
Recalling his tryst with letters, he says, &ldquo;It all began during my college days, when my father could not visit me regularly in Hyderabad as he was staying in Guntur. Letters became the primary mode of communication between us."
While letters were the only way of keeping in touch before the advent of more modern methods of communication, Srinivascharya still believes in the power of the handwritten labour of love.
The author says letters best capture depth.
"When you read a handwritten letter from a person, it makes you feel as if the person is sitting right across and actually talking to you. A lot of things remains unsaid on a phone call or in regular direct conservation. These can be conveyed in a handwritten letter," he says.
Though there has been no stop to Srinivascharya&rsquo;s passion for letters -- with faster modes of communication emerging, especially since 2005 -- he rues that he now never receives responses from those he has written to.
