Hyderabad: Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan is yet to give her approval to seven bills sent by the state government, which set off a fresh debate on the role of governors vis-avis their equation with the state governments.

The longest period that a governor has kept a bill pending was in Maharashtra where governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari refused to set a date for the speaker’s election. Maharashtra legislative assembly was lying vacant for nearly 17 months and the assembly ran with a deputy speaker for more than one year.
