Munugode poll sends records tumbling with 93.1% turnout

Munugode assembly constituency on Thursday witnessed one of the highest-ever voter turnouts in the country, clocking a colossal 93.1% and confirming the steep political stakes involved in the by-election.

Hyderabad:  TRS and BJP left no stone unturned to mobilise voters and the hype created around the fierce political battle triggered a mammoth turnout.

Of 2.42 lakh electors, around 2.25 lakh cast their vote in Munugode and eight booths in the constituency recorded 97-98% polling. Earlier, the highest turnout of 92% was recorded in Palair constituency in Khammam district of Telangana in the 2018 assembly elections.

Telangana chief electoral officer Vikas Raj said, The last EVM arrived _ at the strongroom at1.30am and the door was sealed at 4.40am on Friday. Polling continued well past the scheduled time of 6pm with voters queuing up till late night at some booths.”
