Hyderabad: Unlike its dismal performance in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has showcased its ability to impact elections on the political turf of Bihar.
In the results announced on Sunday for the Gopalganj bypoll, BJP had managed to secure 70,053 votes, while Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) came second with 68,259 votes.
AIMIM candidate Abdus Salam got 12,214 votes and stood third in the tally, taking 7 percent of the total.
Political observers are of the view that the ruling RJD in alliance with Nitish Kumar&rsquo;s - Janata Dal (United) lost the Gopalganj bypoll due to AIMIM candidate pulling over 12,000 votes, mainly that of Muslims.
In addition to Congress,&nbsp;Muslims are considered to be a major vote bank of even RJD and JD (U) parties respectively.
The performance of the party in Gopalganj bypoll has once again proved that it is here to stay in Bihar politics, the observers said.
&ldquo;Though limited, AIMIM has found its footing in Bihar politics for sure. The Gopalganj bypoll result shows that AIMIM can impact the electoral fortunes in at least some seats,&rdquo; said a party leader.
