Sr woman Maoist gives up, DGP says Naxal movement on wane

Aluri Usha Rani alias Bhanu Didi , a senior woman Maoist, involved in several violent incidents in Telangana and Chhattisgarh has surrendered before the police on Saturday. She carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh.

Usha Rani (53), a divisional committee member of the north sub-zonal bureau of the Dandakaranya special zonal committee of CPI (Maoist), surrendered in the presence of director general of police M. Mahender Reddy.

She turned herself in owing to health reasons, police said.

According to the police, she participated in a total of 14 offences during her underground life in both the states. These include five attacks on security forces, three exchanges of fire with the police, three blasting of buildings, one abduction and two assault cases.
