<p id="1"><strong>Hyderabad</strong>: While bagging one&rsquo;s first job is an exciting prospect, many students who were recruited on campus have been facing a harrowing experience in recent times. Freshers say recruiters are taking time, even months before onboarding them &mdash; a trend seen across the state.</p>
<p id="3">The main culprits are bulk recruiters and service based companies, say placement officers, especially those with clients on foreign shores.</p>
<p id="4">The major reason behind the alarming trend is a slowdown in hiring, largely because of the anticipated recession in the US, say placement officers.</p>
<p id="1">Companies are not only delaying onboarding, they are also taking their own time to send offer letters to many other students selected during campus placements. In some cases, companies are even failing to honour job offers extended to students.</p>

<p id="1">&ldquo;Some bulk recruiters have not yet started the onboarding process. Students who completed courses in June 2022 have been waiting,&rdquo; says J Upender, training and placement officer, University College of Engineering, Osmania University. He however adds that most companies have assured the process will be completed by January, when the financial year ends for US-based companies.</p>

<p id="1">Citing an example, the training and placement officer at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University College of Engineering, Hyderabad, says: &ldquo;An MNC, a bulk recruiter, has delayed onboarding. The rest of our students, who completed their course this year, have already started working.&rdquo;</p>

<p id="1">Service-based companies are dependent on client demands and projects, making recruitment more unpredictable, say experts. So, while service-based companies play spoilsport, product-based companies &mdash; those into research and development &mdash; have been better.</p>

<p id="2">&ldquo;Product-based companies are very clear about their future plans and hire accordingly. We don&rsquo;t generally see offers not being honoured by them,&rdquo; said K Kiran Kumar, National Institute of Technology, Warangal.</p>
<p id="3">Sounding a word of caution, experts say, many firms, including those with US-based clients, have stopped hiring completely or are hiring few students owing to high inflation and anticipated recession. The same goes for startups. &ldquo;We are worried the situation will be worse in next quarter because of reasons, including economic uncertainty in UK, Ukraine war and US recession,&rdquo; said a senior staff at a top state institute.</p>
