Hyderabad: A software professional and his 78-year-old father were hacked to death in their Uppal home in the early hours of Friday. The family of septuagenarian Narasimha Murthy suspect the role of his sister and brother for the murder which police believe was over a property dispute.
Police said the assailants covered their face, while one of them, clad in a blue shirt, fled towards the main road after committing the murder in Hanuman Sai colony.
Some of the suspects, who are residents of Ramanthapur, have been taken into custody, it is learnt.
At around 5.30 am when Murthy was sitting in the portico, two persons entered their compound and attacked him with an axe.
When Murthy raised an alarm, his younger son Srinivas (35), who was on the first floor, came running down to rescue him. However, the assailants struck Srinivas hard with the axe.
Murthy's body was found in the setback area of the house, while Srinivas was found dead at the gate.
Srinivas was found lying close to the gate, indicating that he tried to escape from the assailants.
The housemaid, who saw the assailants fleeing the spot after killing the fatherson duo, was reportedly threatened by them, police said. Deputy commissioner of police (Malkajgiri) Rakshitha K Murthy said efforts were on to identify the assailants with the help of CCTV footage.
Police said Murthy was attacked over a property dispute two years ago.
"Murthy and his brother and others filed complaints against each other in court with regard to the property dispute," Uppal inspector R Govinda Reddy said. A murder case was registered.
