Hyderabad: Coming down heavily on Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) authorities for encouraging a multi-crore post-graduate (PG) medical seat-blocking scam through certain students, the Telangana high court on Thursday exposed a part of the scam and described it as the tip of the iceberg.
Taking note of the profuse apologies from the authorities conveyed through state counsel, a bench of Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili and Justice Namavarapu Rajeswara Rao directed the university and the National Medical Commission to allot a seat in PG dermatology course under management quota (MQI) to a student, who lost an opportunity to avail the seat in a college of her choice due to the seat-blocking scam.
The modus operandi of the scam is simple. Some students, who had already secured seats under MQ-I and convenor quotas, would be allowed to participate in the subsequent rounds of counselling in an unlawful manner. They spoil the chances of other eligible persons by blocking seats.
