Why Indian medical students studying in China may be ineligible for FMGE

National Medical Commission (NMC) has made it mandatory for Indian medical students, who have joined a medical programme in China post-November 2021, to get a license to practice as a medical doctor in China. In the absence of this license, the students will be considered ineligible to appear for Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) in India. Several students are confused due to this decision and are waiting for official confirmation on this.

Lack of awareness

A senior official from the Ministry of Health, on the condition of anonymity, says, "The NMC regulation aims at ensuring the quality of medical professionals once they come back post completion of their formal medical education in China. As of now, Indian authorities are unsure about the kind of training our students receive in China, which may put our patients at risk.
