While critically-acclaimed international police investigative series such as Mindhunter and Bosch are also popular among Indian audiences, Indian cops have also become an in-demand genre. Here’s a look at the expanding line-up of police dramas.
‘VIEWERS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN INTRIGUED BY POLICE INVESTIGATIONS’
Unlike films on the police forces, web shows in this genre are often lauded for being “very close to reality”. Streaming platforms say that the reason police shows keep getting commissioned on OTT is that these shows intrigue the audience. For instance, Aranyak starring Raveena Tandon became a hit in many countries on Netflix. Similarly, Jaideep Ahlawat’s character of a police officer in Paatal Lok on Amazon Prime earned him many awards. Similarly, Hotstar Specials such as Special Ops starring Kay Kay Menon, and Rudra starring Ajay Devgn are popular on the platform.
