Guwahati/New Delhi: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Azad's letter to Sonia had many similarities with the one he had written in 2015 while quitting Congress to join BJP.
Sarma attributed the exit of Azad and some other senior Congress leaders to Sonia Gandhi's futile attempts to promote Rahul Gandhi in the party. Like Azad, Sarma too had then cited Rahul's style of functioning as one of his primary reasons to leave Congress.
"The problem in Congress is that everyone knows that Rahul Gandhi is an immature, a whimsical and an unpredictable leader. Sonia Gandhi is not taking care of the party. Basically, all these years, she had been only trying to promote her son. But that is a futile attempt," Sarma said, adding, "This (leaders deserting) is a natural process. In 2015, I had predicted that a time would come when only the Gandhis would remain in Congress." Sarma said all leaders of Congress feel the same. "Rahul Gandhi is a boon for BJP," he said.
