Twelve people, including a three-year-old girl, on board a Mumbai-bound luxury bus were charred to death and over 40 others injured when the vehicle caught fire following a collision with a coal-laden truck at Mirchi Hotel Chowk on the NashikAurangabad state highway at around 5.15am on Saturday, reports Abhilash Botekar.
A police officer said though the bus had the capacity to carry only 30 people, 55 passengers were on board and all of them were asleep when the accident occurred. Some were sleeping on the floor of the bus in the aisle while a few others were travelling in the driver’s cabin.
The bus had left Yavatmal on Friday night for Mumbai and was coming via Nashik.
