<p id="2">The Shinde faction had split Shiv Sena in July and written to the EC, staking claim to the party name and symbol. But Thackeray had already moved the EC, asking to be heard in the matter.</p>
<p id="3">In October, ahead of the Andheri (East) bypolls, the EC had frozen the Sena symbol and barred the factions from using the party name and symbol until the dispute is settled. In an interim arrangement, the poll panel allotted the name Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena and poll symbol &lsquo;two swords and shield&rsquo; to Shinde&rsquo;s group and Thackeray&rsquo;s faction was recognised as ShivSena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and given the &lsquo;flaming torch&rsquo; (mashaal) symbol.</p>
