<p>He resolved to make his family proud by realising his brother&rsquo;s dream. He worked hard at school and did well in exams, but the lack of access to affordable coaching put him at a disadvantage. He got admission to a local private college, but his father couldn&rsquo;t secure an education loan to pay a hefty Rs 37,500 as upfront fee for the first year. He had to back out.</p>

<p id="2">For a while he toyed with the idea of joining a science course, but decided it would be a waste of time, and more importantly, money.</p>
<p id="3">Binoop grew up in Vilakkuvettom, a small village on the outskirts of Punalur in Kollam district, Kerala. &ldquo;Very few people in our village pursued engineering,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo;It was a distant dream for many.&rdquo; His father, who worked in a plantation field, always prioritised education despite their financial situation. His mother, who helped raise cattle, took up a tailoring job for extra income. &ldquo;They put their faith in me and withdrew their entire savings, Rs 6,500, and helped me join a coaching institute,&rdquo; says Binoop. It paid off as he secured a higher rank the following year, which meant substantially lower fees.</p>

<p id="1">With the help of an education loan, he enrolled in a computer science course at TKM College of Engineering in Kollam. &ldquo;It was all because of my parents. So when I started college, my only goal was to get a good job&nbsp;and give them a comfortable life,&rdquo; he says.</p>
<p id="3">In college, he worked hard despite being unable to afford many textbooks and other expenses. &ldquo;It was difficult in the beginning. But few of my friends and&nbsp;classmates were kind enough to&nbsp;loan me money or their text&nbsp;books, &rdquo; he says.</p>

<p id="1">Binoop had a fascination for computers but no access to one growing up. But he has realised that did not matter. &ldquo;You can learn everything about computers in college. Most kids who had a computer growing up used it only for games anyway,&rdquo; he chuckles.</p>
<p id="2">He finished the course and was placed at SunTec Business Solutions as a software engineer in 2011, and continues to work at its Thiruvananthapuram office. Today, he&rsquo;s a senior architect working on a cloud-native and micro-services-based platform.</p>
<p id="3">A year into his job, Binoop made sure his parents didn&rsquo;t have to work anymore. &ldquo;I was able to give them a better life,&rdquo; he says.</p>
