New Delhi: Calling terrorism an attack on humanity, freedom and civilisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here on Friday, “It knows no boundaries. Only a uniform, unified and zero-tolerance approach can defeat terrorism.”
During the last two decades, India has repeatedly sought inclusion of several Pakistan-based leaders of LeT and JeM in the UNSC’s 1267 Committee List but the proposals have been vetoed by China. Calling for a larger strategy aimed at hurting terror financing, Modi said it’s all the more important to “strike at the root” while adding that terrorist outfits get money through several sources and even get state support. Flagging how one of the sources of terror funding is organised crime, the Prime Minister said money made from crimes such as gun-running, drugs and smuggling is pumped into terrorism.
He said even activities like money laundering and financial crimes have been known to help terror funding.
