'Proof fabricated': HC sets aside death rap for murder

Holding that the “trial was conducted in the most casual manner” and evidence led by the prosecution was “fraught with inconsistencies” and “deliberately fabricated,” the Bombay high court set aside conviction and death sentence awarded to a man by a sessions judge in Palghar in a 2015 double murder case where acid was thrown on a couple while they were asleep in Boisar in Palghar taluka.

Mumbai: The trial court in Palghar had concluded that the case of acid attack leading to the double murder of Rajkumar and Geetadevi was a “unique case beyond imagination and a crime of such a nature which is undeserving of any sympathy or mercy.”
