PM Modi reached Samarkand, Uzbekistan, yesterday to attend the 22nd summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The formal agenda includes stock-taking of SCO’s two-decade journey and talks on ways to enhance cooperation in future. Of greater significance are the bilateral meetings on the summit’s sidelines. Modi’s departure statement said that he would meet some of the attendees including President S Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan. SCO, dominated by China, India and Russia, accounts for 40% of the global population and about 30% of its GDP, giving it heft among inter-government groupings.
