The youth, identified as Naveen only, was accompanied by his cousin Aman, but the latter returned soon after covering a distance of 5 km due to ill health. A rescue and search operation is on, said police.
Harshil SHO Dilmohan Singh told TOI that police received information about the youth from the forest department officials at Gangotrinational park.
"Naveen, a resident of Shahdara, Delhi, had started the trek with his cousin Aman on October 21 after taking permission from the forest department. Aman returned after trekking 5km due to ill health, but Naveen continued with his journey. He was supposed to return by October 23. When he didn't, Aman informed forest department officials at Gangotri, who then approached the&nbsp;nearby Harshil police station," the SHO said.
The local police launched a search operation with the help of the state disaster response force (SDRF) on Tuesday but to no avail. Singh said, "We informed the SDRF to launch a search and rescue operation. On Tuesday, a rescue team comprising SDRF and local police personnel went to Gomukh but to no avail. Another team was sent to Gomukh on Wednesday."
He said Naveen, who works as a loan agent for a private bank in Delhi, was going to Gomukh for the third time.
Naveen went missing 21 km away from Draupadi ka Danda-2 peak, where an avalanche killed 27 out of 29 climbers from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering on October 4. The search for the remaining two is still on.
