After a meeting on Wednesday to take stock of the antidust campaign, a Delhi government statement said, "It was observed that 6,868 construction sites have been inspected by officers under the antidust campaign. Notices/challans were issued to 253 sites and fines of Rs 32.4 lakh imposed for violation of guidelines issued at construction sites."&nbsp;
On October 6, Delhi government constituted 586 inspection teams to ensure compliance with the anti-dust measures at&nbsp;construction sites.
According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, dust and construction pollutants on Wednesday accounted for, respectively, for 1.5% and 2.7% of the air pollutants in the city, while vehicular emissions accounted for 18-24%.
"Our teams have been instructed to constantly inspect construction sites to ensure they follow all the 14 anti-dust norms.&nbsp;Failure to do this invites strict action," said environment minister Gopal Rai. The anti-dust campaign is part of the 15-point winter action plan against pollution announced by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on September 30.
A day after flagging off 150 truck-mounted anti-smog guns,&nbsp;Rai said, "The state government is running various campaigns to reduce pollution, such as the antidust campaign, use of bio-decomposer on paddy harvest remnants, tree plantation, anti-fireworks campaign, water sprinkling to settle dust, etc."
In addition to the antidust inspection teams, Delhi government has also constituted 380 teams to check vehicular pollution, 611 to monitor open burning, and 33 to keep an eye on industrial pollution. The government had earlier also stated that 210 teams were formed to check firecracker bursting on Diwali, but what action was taken against violators hasn't yet been disclosed.
"The anti-dust teams are regularly visiting construction sites, especially during the campaign from October 6 up to November 6," said the environment minister. "If any site refuses to follow the 14 rules on dust control, action will be taken against them as per law.&nbsp;According to the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal, a fine ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 5 lakh can be imposed on violators. If the violations are deemed to be severe, the construction site will be shut down."
Rai also requested the capital's citizens to report any irregularities in the implementation of the pollution measures on the Green Delhi App.
