<p id="2">The risks are most pronounced in the acute phase but they may persist in the post-acute phase at six months as well, the study based on an analysis of the US department of veteran affairs national healthcare database suggests.</p>
<p id="3">The database includes 58.2 lakh veterans. The researchers found 4,43,588 people had been infected once with Covid while 40,947 people suffered reinfection. Around 53.3 lakh said they were infected by the disease. Compared to people with no reinfection, data showed, people who had reinfection exhibited increased risks of all-cause mortality, hospitalisation and several prespecified outcomes, the study says. It adds: &ldquo;The risks were evident in those who were unvaccinated and had one vaccination or two or more vaccinations before reinfection.&rdquo;</p>

<p id="2">The authors concluded that the findings showed that reinfection further increased risks of all-cause mortality and adverse health outcomes in both acute and post-acute phases of reinfection.</p>
<p id="3">Neuropsychiatric manifestations of long Covid include brain fog, migraines, seizures, headaches, memory loss, anxiety, depression and insomnia. Patients who have recovered from the moderate to severe infection have also reported scarring of lung tissues, pneumonitis and secondary bacterial infection among others.</p>
