Does reinfection add to longCovid risk? Yes, it does. According to a study published in Nature Medicine, compared to no reinfection, reinfection with Covid adds to the risk of complications associated with pulmonary, cardiovascular, haematological, diabetes, gastrointestinal, kidney, mental health, musculoskeletal and neurological disorders, hospitalisation and even death.

The risks are most pronounced in the acute phase but they may persist in the post-acute phase at six months as well, the study based on an analysis of the US department of veteran affairs national healthcare database suggests.
