<p id="1"><strong>Gurgaon: </strong>For the third day in a row on Saturday, the service road of the Delhi-Jaipur highway at Narsinghpur remained inundated as rain continued in fits and bursts and two of the nine pumps deployed there broke down.</p>
<p id="2">At the lowest ebb of the highway, Narsinghpur is prone to flooding when it rains but it&rsquo;s not just down to topography that it is wading in problems &ndash; it does not have a functional drain to channel the rainwater out.</p>
<p id="3">The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has installed five pumps while the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has deployed four there for the first time this monsoon season.</p>
<p id="4">The pumps are connected to pipes that direct the water to the main Badshapur stormwater drain.</p>
<p id="5">Waterlogging also led to a traffic jam on the highway despite Gurgaon traffic police issuing an advisory around 11.30 am, appealing to people to avoid the stretch. &ldquo;As traffic started to build on that section of the highway, we diverted traffic. Our officials were at the spot to manage traffic movement,&rdquo; said DCP (traffic) Virender Singh Sangwan.</p>
<p id="6">NHAI officials said the waterlogging problem at Narsinghpur can only be solved by building a stormwater drain &ndash; a plan that has been discussed for a long time but hasn&rsquo;t moved forward.</p>
<p>&ldquo;A drain is proposed across the highway, between Narsinghpur and Dwarka Expressway. But nothing has been finalised in this regard yet. It has to be planned and constructed jointly by NHAI and GMDA. GMDA has to give us a written proposal regarding this because NHAI is not a drainage expert. That is GMDA&rsquo;s purview,&rdquo; said a senior NHAI official.</p>

<p id="2">GMDA officials said it&rsquo;s the NHAI that needs to draft a plan. &ldquo;We had discussed this project with NHAI during a meeting around a month ago. They need to chalk out the plan for the drain, we will simply be providing them with guidance,&rdquo; said a senior GMDA official.</p>
<p id="3">Building the drain itself will not take too long and can be done within &ldquo;2-3 months&rdquo;, sources said.</p>
