Advocate Sushil Gupta, appearing for businessmen Vaibhav Jain and Ankush Jain, told special judge Vikas Dhull that Vaibhav had been forced to make his statement, following which he filed a 'retraction application' saying it was untruthful and not even recorded under CCTV.
Requesting the court to discard the statement, Gupta submitted that ED has not mentioned anything about the retraction application. He added that Vaibhav was never confronted with Satyendar Jain during the investigation&nbsp;despite ED summoning him three to four times, as ED 'feared' it would come under CCTV recordings and the entire case "would go down".
The minister, who is lodged in Tihar jail, had moved Delhi high court the same day the case was transferred to another judge. On October 1, HC dismissed his petition, stating that ED's apprehensions were not "baseless". Jain then moved SC against HC's dismissal of his petition but withdrew his plea on October 17.
ED initiated the money laundering probe on the basis of a case registered by CBI in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against Satyendar Jain, Poonam Jain, Ajit Prasad Jain, Sunil Kumar Jain, Vaibhav Jain, and Ankush Jain. A year later, CBI filed a chargesheet in the matter.
