The Kerala government amended Thursday the rules of the state-run Kerala Kalamandalam deemed-to-be-university for arts and culture to remove governor Arif Mohammed Khan as its chancellor through an executive order.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kalamandalam being a deemed-to-be university directly run by it, the state government has the powers to decide its matters, including who should be the chancellor. The governor was functioning as its chancellor based on a government order issued in 2015.

The executive order said an eminent person in the field of art and culture would be appointed as chancellor by the government.
