Admissions under the first list of Common Seat Allocation System at Delhi University closed on Tuesday with about 59,100 seats being filled at the end of the first round. Several top colleges said admissions were likely to close for most courses after the first list itself, barring a few reserved seats.
In the first CSAS round, the varsity had made 80,164 allocations against the 70,000 seats on offer this year.
Suman Sharma, principal of Lady Shri Ram College for Women, said not a single seat in the unreserved category was left after the first round.&nbsp;"We admitted 1,100 students against sanctioned strength of 970. This system is actually better as we are done with a major part of admissions in the first list itself.&nbsp;Earlier, it used to continue till the fourth list," she added.
With the varsity allocating extra seats to colleges, Shri Ram College of Commerce is also looking at closing admissions after the first list itself as BA (H) economics saw 185 admissions out of the sanctioned strength of 165, while BCom (H) saw 745 admissions out of 659 seats.
Even at Miranda House,&nbsp;principal Bijalaxami Nanda said the college had already filled over 1,300 seats.
"Except for zoology, botany, life sciences, and Bengali, all seats are more or less filled. Because of the extra allocation, there are some like political science where over-admissions have been done. We are lacking in only a few courses and some in the reserved categories. Several applicants had put Miranda House as their first preference and they got the seats. There have been very few rejections based on errors made by applicants in mapping the subjects during the registration process," Nanda explained.
At Indraprastha College for Women, courses like BA (H) economics, political science, psychology, English, sociology, geography, and BCom&nbsp;(H) were closed, said principal Rekha Sethi.
"Vacant seats are mostly in the reserved categories. In philosophy, there are five vacant seats for ST and one for the EWS category. In mathematics, there are nine vacant seats, all from the reserved categories. For Hindi, there are five vacant seats each in the ST and EWS categories, apart from two in the unreserved category. Even for computer science, there are three vacant seats in the unreserved category," Sethi said.
Sanjay Batra, the admission convenor at Sri Venkateswara College, said while 1,250 aspirants out 1,600 were allocated seats and they completed the process by paying the fees, it was mostly science courses that had vacant seats. "Out of 250 vacant seats, about 200 are vacant for science courses for both unreserved and OBC categories," he added.
Ramanujan College has about 200 vacant seats, said principal SP Aggarwal, adding that courses like Hindi, environmental science, BCom and vocational courses had vacant seats in the unreserved category. Aryabhatta College saw 695 admissions against 963 applications, said principal Manoj Sinha.
